The UK is not self-sufficient in honey being one of the top importers to meet domestic consumption and the industry is expected to be worth over £190m by the end of 2017.
The company could benefit from the previously developed suppliers and retailers network to acquire early adopters but the product will not be available until September 2017.
Many players are already in the luxury honey segment but the company intends to compete by offering a premium British raw honey that is neither heated nor blended.

Conclusion

The company intends to fill the gap for British luxury honey between the blended varieties and premium Manuka honey and the Founders have already tested the market stating that there is proven demand. The intended pricing could however be a barrier to customer acquisition as the product will be confined to a very small premium niche of the market. That said it seems that most of the overheads are outsourced, giving the company a more flexible business model that will help if any shortfall in sales occurs.
